Puerto Vallarta is more than a resort town. "Puerto Vallarta is a Paradise", as famous local artist Manuel Lepe once wrote. A paradise with friendly people and the charm and feel of old Mexico; winding cobblestone streets, white stucco houses with red tile roofs and fuchsia bougainvillea spilling over garden walls. There is a certain mystique inherited from the jet set days of the 60's, when Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, John Huston and Peter O'Toole used to gather at each other's villas to play poker or have drinks at the original Oceana Bar on the Malecon. There are still many Americans and Canadians who make this their second home. The beauty of Banderas Bay is unsurpassed. One of the largest natural bays in the world, there are many virgin beaches only accessible by boat. The jungle covered mountains meet the ocean in dramatic style, with pristine rivers and waterfalls, white beaches set between rocky points and million dollar villas hugging cliff sides. |
